Robert L. Johnson
Principal, Oliva Gourmet Oils, Balsamics, & Culinary Gifts
1033 Emmet Street N
Charlottesville, Virginia 22903
I am Robert “Bugg” Johnson, the proud owner of Oliva. I was born and raised in Nelson County and, after receiving a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Radford University, I began a career in the Financial Services Industry.
During my travels around the globe, I visited the stunning wine and olive regions of Argentina, California, Chile, and Italy. I was hooked on the food and flavors and knew at some point I wanted to bring these “hobbies” back home one day to the Charlottesville area.
In 2016 I became aware of the former Oil & Vinegar store in Barracks Road being for sale and — fast forward — we closed the transaction in March 2017, rebranded under the Oliva name, and reopened as a locally owned independent small business that employs and supports our friends, family, and neighbors.

Frank Eways, Jr.
Owner of Frank S. Eways Fine Rugs & GalleryFrank S Eways Fine Rugs & Gallery
My grandfather, Salem M. Eways, came to the United States as a Stone Mason. In the late 1920s, he began selling fine textiles door-to-door in New York City, until he and his brother found an opportunity to earn money cleaning and repairing rugs. With dedication and hard work, they built the business and eventually grew into 4 stores in the Pennsylvania region. Salem then moved to Charlottesville in the early 1960s and opened a store named Salem M. Eways Oriental Rugs, located in University shopping center on Old Ivy Rd.
“My father, Frank S. Eways Sr., left a career as a state trooper in Pennsylvania and moved to Charlottesville to help with the business after his father passed. After Frank took things over, the family business continued to grow. I began cleaning and repairing rugs at an early age and have continued the legacy ever since.” – Frank Eways Jr.
